The Southern Adirondack School of Botanical Studies is the educational arm of the Adirondack Botanical Garden.
Our long term goal is to have one or more permanent locations to work from in the Adirondack park. In the meantime we
hope to create a network of community and private gardens for educational programming.
Programming:
Classes in Horticulture: Vegetable gardening, ornamentals,
organic gardening, forest gardening, beekeeping, herb gardening and harvesting, small scale home agriculture and others. Botany: Plant
identification, botanical latin, plant structure, botanical history, indigenous plants, mycology and others Ecology: Companion/Associate
planting, insect identification, Ecosystem gardening, invasive plant identification and control and others

Intro to Gardening Basics 1 Fall 09 Date to be announced
This six part
Fall session looks at soil structure and properties, drainage and pH, introductory botany and plant physiology, techniques
for growing, planting, watering and fertilizing plants and planting , transplanting and container gardening. It is intended
to assist beginners in their growth as gardeners, as well as being a refresher for more experienced gardeners. This
course compliments the 2nd class Intro to Gardening basics 2. The 2 courses combined are recommended to all levels of gardeners
as a foundation for our core programming.
Intro to Gardening Basics
2 Winter 2010
This six part compliment to Intro to Gardening Basics 1 instructs
participants in understanding plant names, botanical classification, and plant families, plant hardiness and protection.
This course provides an overview of planning and designing a garden, as well as Garden maintenance and the control of pests
and diseases. As part of garden maintenance, weeds, invasive species along with basic pruning and training techniques will
be covered.
